Portland Lighthouse
The Portland Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse located at the entrance to Casco Bay in Portland, Maine. The lighthouse was built in 1791 and is one of the oldest in the United States. The Portland Lighthouse originally used a wooden lighthouse, but it quickly became unusable due to its perennial exposure to sea breeze and fog.

So in 1812, a new stone lighthouse, 80 feet high, was built of gray stone and became the main body of the current Portland Lighthouse. In the 20th century, the Portland Lighthouse was abandoned, but it was later restored by maintenance crews and has become an important tourist attraction in the city of Portland. Today, the Portland Lighthouse is still providing navigation services for sailors to safely cross Casco Bay.
