Danwan Reef
Cannonball Reef, also known as Cannonball Reef, is a disputed island located in the middle of the South China Sea. The reef is located in the southern part of the South China Sea Islands, about 140 kilometers from Malaysia and 270 kilometers from the Philippines. While Malaysia claims sovereignty over the reef, it is also claimed by China and the Philippines. Danwan Reef is a rocky reef located between some important shipping lanes in the South China Sea and is therefore considered to be of strategic value. There are other disputed islands near the reef, including the Spratly Islands and the Paracel Islands. Over the past few years, China has been building artificial islands and military facilities in the South China Sea, sparking concern and criticism from the international community.
