In 2015, Roberts was one of 31 LGBT History Month Icons as according to the Equality Forum. She received a Peabody Award in 2012 as well as an Arthur Ashe Courage Award from ESPN in 2013 due to her public promotion of bone marrow donations, having had bone marrow disease herself.
