At some point in fashion history, we decided to embrace the “shipwrecked” trend when it came to fashion — people actually paid money for clothing that looked like it had been destroyed. A perfect example of the distressed clothing trend was the toilet-paper-inspired look that the R&B girl group TLC wore to the 1995 VMAs.

A departure from the oversized and baggy ensembles that the group typically wore, Chilli, the late Lisa “Left Eye,” and T-Boz sported these mummy-like costumes for the award ceremony. While their song “Waterfalls” won several awards, their outfits certainly didn’t!

By the late ‘80s, Kim Basinger was considered one of the most desirable women in Hollywood, thanks to her many sultry film roles. Perhaps that's why she chose to dress up as post-makeover Sandy from Grease?

In 1990, the actress wore a skin-tight black catsuit topped with a heavy leather jacket and thick headband to present the "Best Dance Video" award at the VMAs. While we would honestly rock that leather jacket today, “We [definitely don’t] Go Together” with her thick workout-style headband!
