French Polynesia has a very low crime rate, making it a safe tourist destination. Petty crimes happen, but they're rare. Likewise, when they occur, they typically occur in the country's capital, Papeete. Hence, if you happen to be in Papeete at nighttime, avoid carrying a lot of cash, scuffling with people, or wearing pricey jewelry.
