The annual Met Gala is kind of like the Oscars of the fashion world. It’s a chance for the globe’s most popular and prominent designers to dress Hollywood’s hottest stars as walking billboards – some of which, as you will see, are much more visually appealing than others.

Although guests wine and dine at a cocktail hour and a nice dinner, the main event of the evening is undoubtedly the red carpet walk. Some stars change up to four or five times before even making it up the stairs. Let’s take a look at the best and worst dressed throughout the years.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Katy Perry is never one to do things lightly when it comes to creating an over-the top look. It, therefore comes as no surprise that she made our list, and she will probably do it again at some point in the years to come. Oddly enough, she’s literally wearing lights. Back in 2010, she had lights look that was slightly more subtle, if that’s even possible, for dresses created with lights.

She’s decked out like a full-blown chandelier – headpiece and all. The outfit was designed by Jeremy Scott from the brand Moschino. We admit, it doesn’t look so much like an outfit as a Halloween costume - but the theme for that year was Camp, and that year saw the Gala go wild.
